  • The 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) identified “world leading” research activity in all Units of Assessment returned by the University.
  • Achieving its best results in the latest RAE, Sports-Related Studies (including sports science, tourism, leisure studies and events management) at Leeds Metropolitan are ranked in the top 6 in the country with research rated as including “world leading” activities.
  • Art and Design, and Library and Information Management were also assessed to have “world leading” research.
  • The University has earned over £15 million in research and enterprise income in the 2009/10 academic year, with sources of income including consultancy, collaborative research, short courses for industry and commerce and research income from charities.
  • The University’s Centre of Excellence in Learning and Technology (CETL) is one of only 3 Enterprise CETLs nationally.
  • The University has over 380 research students, almost all of whom are doctoral degree candidates. In 2010/11, they produced 41 doctoral graduates, who contributed leading research in their respective fields.

  • The University helps hundreds of students find relevant work placements while at university and offers a dedicated service to support students in preparing for their career.
  • Since 2002, the University has helped 150 student business start-ups, providing business advice, access to grants, networking opportunities and start-up accommodation for students and recent graduates.
  • The Careers Office is dedicated to offering expert advice and a host of resources to help all students choose and gain employment through its Career Mentoring services.
  • Annual Student Showcases are held for graduating students and can help secure employment even before graduation. Numerous graduates have secured positions in internationally-known companies and multinationals based in the UK and around the globe prior to their graduation.
  • Students also have the opportunity to participate in student exchange and study abroad programmes. The University offers a range of international and European positions through its strong partnerships with the university-wide International Exchange Programme and Erasmus Programme.
